South Korea just committed billions to AI infrastructure. The crypto market barely blinked. But beneath the surface, two invisible supply chains are being rewired — one for silicon, one for regulation. One could lower mining costs for every Bitcoin miner. The other could unlock the East Asian regulatory floodgate. Or both could be a classic narrative trap.

Let’s start with the hardware. Every crypto miner, every ZK proof generator, every validator running an execution client — they all depend on one scarce resource: semiconductor manufacturing capacity. South Korea produces over 60% of the world’s memory chips and a significant fraction of the logic chips used in GPUs and ASICs. Samsung and SK Hynix are the two levers controlling that supply.
